Recent literature has shown that cartilage, like most other tissues in the body, contains populations of stem cell-like chondroprogenitor cells. These cells are able to migrate out of pieces of cartilage which are adhered to tissue culture plastic and represent an unexplored source of cells for treating cartilage lesions.
